Learn English: 10 Resources to Practice Listening English

Listening comprehension is an essential skill for anyone who wants to learn English. It allows you to understand what people are saying to you, whether you're having a conversation, watching a movie, or listening to a news report.

There are many resources available to help you practice your listening comprehension.
Here are 10 of my favorites:
  1. YouTube. There are many YouTube channels that offer English listening practice materials, such as Learn English with EnglishClass101, BBC Learning English, and TED Talks. Remember to activate closed captions to understand the conversation completely.
  2. Podcasts. There are also many podcasts that are designed for English learners, such as Coffee Break English, 6 Minute English, VOA Learning English and TED Radio Hour.
  3. News websites. Many news websites offer audio recordings of their news stories, which you can listen to improve your listening comprehension. Some examples include BBC News, CNN, CNBC and The Guardian.
  4. Audiobooks. Listening to audiobooks is a great way to improve your listening comprehension and vocabulary. You can find audiobooks in a variety of genres, so you can find something that you're interested in.
  5. Movies and TV shows. Watching movies and TV shows in English is another great way to improve your listening comprehension. You can start with movies and TV shows that are designed for learners, such as Easy English Movies and Lingotopia.
  6. Online courses. There are many online courses that offer English listening practice. Some examples include FluentU, italki, and Duolingo.
  7. Apps. There are also many apps that offer English listening practice. Some examples include Listening Practice, Speech Jammer, and English Listening Trainer.
  8. Conversation partners. One of the best ways to improve your listening comprehension is to practice with native speakers. You can find conversation partners online or through local language exchange groups.
  9. Live classes. If you're serious about improving your listening comprehension, you can take live classes with a qualified English teacher.
  10. Record yourself. One way to assess your listening comprehension is to record yourself listening to an audio clip and then compare it to the original recording. This can help you identify areas where you need to improve.
No matter which resources you choose, the most important thing is to practice regularly. The more you listen to English, the better your listening comprehension will become.

Here are some additional tips for practicing your listening comprehension:
  • Choose materials that are at your level. If you're a beginner, don't try to listen to native speakers talking at normal speed. Start with materials that are designed for learners, such as children's books or news stories that have been slowed down.
  • Set aside some time each day to practice. Even if it's just for 15 minutes, listening to English regularly will help you improve your comprehension.
  • Find a listening partner. If you can find someone who is fluent in English, you can practice by talking to them. This is a great way to get feedback on your listening skills.
  • Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes when they're learning a new language. The important thing is to keep practicing and to learn from your mistakes.
With regular practice, you can improve your listening comprehension and become a more confident English speaker.
